First Post

Ahhh - the troublesome first words. I decided to do this blog in the hopes of keeping me connected to the outside world. I am living in the western NC Mountains, about an hour from Asheville, NC. Beautiful place, I can't say that enough but it is a little isolating (can't say that enough either). I moved here five years ago from Boston to be closer to my now husband who I met online. Culture shock followed the move. Job-related travel kept me sane for the most part but now that I have decided to move on to a different career (haven’t decided what yet) after 12 years of being a road-warrior. So, now after five years I need to become ‘accustomed’ to living here without leaving. Yikes.

I have been connected to food as long as I can remember. I did a brief stint at cooking school, worked in catering and finally trying out the restaurant business working the kitchen line night after night. All this dabbling only to discover that it’s hard business and even harder when you try it after making real money. So I resolved myself to being a really good cook at home and to make living however agonizing in the corporate world.

No take-out or pizza deliveries within miles giving me no choice but to cook every night. So, tonight a dinner party. Lemongrass Beef Noodle Salad for the entrée, and a Blueberry Buttermilk Tart for dessert and some fabulous Thai Boxer cocktails. Pictures tomorrow.
